My best of edit from 2020. Footage from around the Canary Islands and Cape Town. 2020 was obviously a very strange year, hardly leaving the island, but consequently scoring most of the good days at home, which very often I miss completely.
Hope you enjoy!

Check out all the action from 2018 and 2019. It took me so long to put this edit together. A mix of lots of work and a young family, means time is not so easily found now! It has footage from Cape Town, Canaries and a few shots from Andorra to mix it up. Wave riding, jumping, slalom, wind foiling, sup foiling and skiing... A proper mega mix.

Check out all the action from 2017. A lot of the best footage is from Maui where we shot the 2018 RRD collection from Hawaii. Plus a few additional clips from Canaries. This was the first year of the Compact Wave, so this was the final testing in Maui and Pozo.
Not a very original title, but this is the best of 2016. Action from South Africa in the January 2016 shooting for RRD, plus some big wave riding from the PWA Aloha Classic contest in November 2016. Some of the biggest Hookipa I have ever sailed.

This edit has taken about a year to finish. Mainly lack of time, but also the standard of videos now has gone crazy and I was never quite happy with mine after seeing some of the beautifully put together clips from other guys. So finally here it is. No cool title, no subplot story line. Just some shots of me enjoying windsurfing around the world.

Pozo 2015 is done and dusted and pretty happy to see the back of it to be honest. I was pretty fired up to do well and had been sailing and training in Pozo more this year than ever. However things just didn't go to plan. Last year things went my way and fell into place, but this year it felt like the opposite. I sailed pretty good I think, but at key moments things went the wrong way. I ended up a pretty disappointing 17th place, so not the best start to the year, but a long way to go from here. Next stop Fuerte and then a quick jump across to Tenerife.
I just got back from a fantastic week in Fuerteventura at the Dunkerbeck GPS Speed Challenge. I had no idea what to expect, so I was very happy (and a little surprised) to finish 3rd for the event. I mainly went there to test the Firewing sails and also to learn a bit about the world of speed sailing. In the end the conditions were on the light side, so I didn't get much time on the speed boards and most of my good runs were with the X-Fire 90, but it was still great to see the Firewing performing so well and great to see the results of all the work we put into it. Next stop for me is the Pozo PWA wave event starting next Sunday. Need to change the chip and get focused.

I finally got around to finishing my edit from the great conditions we had here in Gran Canaria. At the end of February we had probably one of the best 2 weeks I ever had. I used 3.7 more than any other sail! A light wind day was when I could sail on the 4.0. However the best part were the waves, with without a doubt the best riding conditions I have ever had here. This is a few clips from around the island over the last couple of months.

It has been an amazing week over here in Gran Canaria. Probably one of the best weeks I ever had. The highlight was Wednesday where I scored logo+ high waves, side offshore and waves peeling for about 500m. Definitely the best day ever for me over here. On top of that we had loads of great days jumping at Pozo. When I get time I will put together a little video, but in the meantime here are a few screen grabs. There are loads more pics and video clips on my Facebook page, so check it out and like it please.
Its been a while since the last update, but I am currently in Cape Town for the annual shooting/testing trip for RRD. Its been pretty good this year, with loads of waves and sailing almost everyday. Lots of driving, but its been worth it. This year we are joined by new team rider Alex Mussolini and its been great watching him ripping on RRD sails. He sails so good in every condition we found so far, so looking forward to see him competing this year. For me I now have less than a week left. It looks like tomorrow will be pretty big again, so last chance to get the golden pics and video!

The final event of the year is over. It was a disaster for me, but thanks to consistent results all year I was able to discard the event and still move up the ranking finishing 10th for the year. Its been a mixed year with some good luck and bad luck, and had a few things gone in a different direction it could have been a very different result, but still happy with how it ended up. Massive congratulations to Thomas. He sailed out of his skin, particularly when it mattered and the pressure was on. A very deserving champ. Also have to give Victor credit where its due. To have such a phenomenal season and still finish 2nd, is amazing. His sailing particularly here in Maui blew me away and he was fighting until the end! Now its time to head home and chill. I have basically been on the move for over 2 months, so looking forward to unpacking the suitcase and staying in one place for a while.
It looks like the end of the contest here in La Torche. We haven’t managed to finished the double elimination, but the forecast for the last day doesn’t hold much hope. For me its been a tough event. I have been waiting for classic starboard tack jumping conditions for years, since the Guincho days. With so many of the fleet now really port tack specialists it was a good chance to have the fleet mixed up a a bit, but of all the people I could get from the trials I ended up against Angulo, who is the master of that stuff. Had I had a heat warm up I think I could have put up a better fight, but straight in against him, I was out first round. I have not been so devastated by a loss in a long time! Luckily we had a few heats in the double to start to work my way back up a bit and I managed to beat Koster, which was a little consolation. That put me into 9th but unfortunately it was getting dark and they cancelled. It means I drop out of the top 10 for the first time this year, but in terms of points I am not looking too bad going into Maui. A lot of guys around me will be relying on a good result to hold their position, but I am discarding a 13th at the moment, so can be a bit more relaxed. Maui is always a hard contest, especially arriving straight off the plane and going against the guys that live there. This year I am a bit more ready for it though, so can’t wait to get out there. A massive massive congrats to Ricardo for his long awaited 1st World Cup wave win. Plus another massive congrats to Thomas for taking the lead in the rankings. Going to be a very interesting title race in Maui!
Its a strange one because despite having the most inconsistent conditions on the wave tour, it is probably the best event off the water. Thousands of spectators, loads going on and great parties (although this is the first year that I dont enjoy any). This year we at least had a few heats run, even if the conditions were pretty on the edge, but no counting result. Still it was a great week, as Nayra and Lily came over and we had a lovely holiday! Now we head back to GC for 10 days before returning to France. I have a feeling it will be howling and make up for the rest of the year.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6022691021673393714.post-18241494662978084912014-09-28T20:24:00.005+01:002014-09-28T20:24:57.708+01:00Denmark, RRD HQ and Sylt

Its been a hectic week. Denmark finished on the last day, in literally the last hour. I lost to Ricardo and was pretty gutted. I started the heat with a really high scoring wave but then couldn't back it up with a second wave. Even a half decent one would have put me through, but I made a few mistakes and in the really light winds and with a shorter heat than usual those mistakes proved too costly. I just about hang on to a top 10 place in the overall, but it was a lost opportunity to move higher.

An old classic for Andy King

After that it was straight to Italy to see the guys at RRD head quarters. It was a flying visit but managed to test the new Firewings, design some new Wave Cults with Aurelio, plus sort out all future sail ranges for 2016 and beyond. To cap it off, the trip also coincided with Roberto's 50th Birthday party which got quite messy by the end.

Finally I ended up in Sylt where it looks like a long week ahead. The first day we had just about enough wind to get the contest started and it ran smoothly until my heat! Typically the wind dropped and the heat was cancelled meaning I am now in the 1st heat of the day and need to be on alert for every single early skippers meeting. Forecast is not too promising at the moment, but you never know in Sylt. Everything changes so quickly over here that its never over until its over.
I just got back from a fantastic weekend at the NationalWatersportsFestival. Once again the whole show was just amazing. Even in the light winds there was a massive turn out and the SUP's were enjoyed by everyone. Brogborough Lake dominated the windsurf racing which was great to see and best of all RRD absolutely dominated the marquee. Dave White once again constructed the most outstanding stand of everyone and all the gear looks fantastic. Such a positive vibe for everything. A few days at home now before the North sea tour starts with the PWA Cold Hawaii Event next week.

Just got back from the Tenerife PWA World Tour wave event. I finished 13th. Not great, but also could have been worse. It means I sit in 8th overall for the year at the moment, but with potentially 4 more events to come, a lot can happen. In the single I lost out to Klaas, who then went on to finish 4th in the single. Then in the double after advancing past Ben I met Moritz Mauch. I beat him in Pozo 2 weeks ago, but he got his revenge here. He had an 8 and a 9 point wave to count and didn't even need to do a jump. Bit embarrassing really, but good to see him putting some great heats together. His riding style is one of the best on the tour already and he is only 17 I think! Now finally I have a couple of weeks at home before the Autumn goes nuts again.
As I have all the slalom gear now, and Fuerte is just a ferry ride across I thought I would give it a go and see how our sails are really going. So far its been a very steep learning curve. Its been years since I raced properly, and with the no rules racing on the PWA its definitely pretty aggressive at times. Super fun though and I am happy to say the sails are working well around the race course. Just need to sort myself out a bit better and hopefully I can get a few OK results.
After a long week of waiting Pozo finally got underway today and we managed to complete the single elimination. I finished 5th which is my best Pozo result ever I think, so very happy. I spent most of the winter trying doubles with Pons and the training paid off, with the double being the difference in all my heats. I lost to Brawzinho, but happily put up a good fight, just losing out by a tiny bit overall. Huge thanks to RRD, MFC and Bathlia.com. Massive congratulations to Victor. He put on one of the most perfect displays of Pozo wave sailing I have seen. Ricardo managed 2nd with his foot all stitched up and Brawzi finished 3rd. Next stop Fuerte to give slalom a go for a change!
The 1st PWA comp of the year is just around the corner and like always the worlds best have turned up to train and get used to the conditions. The level looks to have jumped even higher. Lots of doubles, lots of push forwards and lots of 360 variations on the waves! For me I am very happy to final start to get consistent with backside 360's. I can honestly say that for me it has been the move that has caused me the most trouble out of everything. Finally thanks to some great tips from Josep Pons, they are starting to come together quite nicely. I just had the most amazing trip to Mauritius for the RRD Distributor meeting. The place is a windsurf paradise, which I don't think could be any better, even if you designed a spot from scratch. Flat water lagoon, small waves, big waves, heavy waves... and we had wind everyday except one. The highlight for me was the last day. Most of the week I was working with the distributors making sure they had fun on the water, but the last day my priority was getting some pictures and video of the new 3 batten sail coming soon. It turned out to be an epic day with perfect logo to mast high waves and wind to get around easily. One Eye is one of the best waves I have ever sailed and I am claiming that it was one of my best 5 sessions ever. Maybe I have just been a bit wave starved recently, but the afternoon session was perfect and just 3 guys out. Its now back to GC, which is a bit of a shock! Not much wind at the moment but its been great for some light wind Firewing testing. Wind is back tomorrow, waves arriving on Wednesday, and then I think it will be the full summer circus again.
I just returned from 2 weeks away to compete at the BWA events in Wales and Ireland. We had some fun conditions, but my results were pretty disappointing. Wales ended up being pretty classic Rhossy conditions. At its best, port tack, 4.2 and really fun jumping. Like always I came up against Ben Proffitt in the semi and, as always seems to be the case, lost out on a tight heat. I find myself a bit lost in Rhossy, not able to find the best waves for either riding or jumping. In the double I sailed better, landing a decent a double, but it wasn't enough to stop an on form Adam Lewis. So, like the previous 3 Wales events I entered, I finished in a disappointing 4th place.

Next was the overnight ferry and drive to Ireland for the next leg. Despite a bit of wind on the first day, we only got through the first round and then had to wait all week for wind on the final day. I thought I sailed well in the semi, but lost out which was devastating and then the wind dropped in the double, denying any sort of come back. I think I finished =5th which writes off any hope of winning the title. The highlight of the week though was a barrel at Gary Williams, a "best move of the contest" prize and a lot of Guinness.

Massive thanks to RRD and Bathlia for their support to do the comps. Hopefully results will improve for the upcoming PWA events. Pics below from Simon Crowther.
Just arrived in the Uk ready for the back to back BWA comps. Thankfully we had a few good days the last week to warm up a bit. Thanks to Territorio Comanche for the shots. Sailed at Pozo a bit, had a good day at Vargas and then lots of slalom sailing with the new Firewing at Arinaga. Forecast looks really good for the first leg of the BWA in Wales. Always tough against the locals there so hoping for a practice session tomorrow. Footstraps and fins are in and ready to go!
Its the first time in around 12 or 13 years that we don't go to Maui in the Spring. Its a strange feeling when it has always part such a key part of our schedule and I can't help but check the photos everyday to see what we are missing. I don't think its been the best season, but truth is Maui on an average day is still better than most places on the best day of the year. I wish I could report that we had done something better, but unfortunately its not really the case. I spent a big part of the last month in China and Italy finalising the new sails for RRD. They are looking great. When I was at home I spent more time on the slalom board than anything else. That has been great fun testing the new Firewing, which will have some nice new features. Now we are enjoying an Easter break in Fuerte before it looks like some good conditions will arrive towards the end of the week. Its now just over 2 months until the first wave comp, so its time to step up the training a bit. Hopefully I will join Pons in his new program. He is offering both fitness training and on the water training, to sharpen me up for the summer. In the meantime happy Easter.
